Harvest Safety

Many don’t realize that agriculture ranks among the nation’s most hazardous industries and we all rely on the crop production for our food supply. Whether you are a motorist or a farmer, make sure you do your part to make the roads safer this harvest by following these tips.
  • All motorists should slow down immediately when they see farm equipment because machinery is usually travelling at less than 25 miles per hour.
  • Learn to share the road responsibly and be patient and wait for an opportunity to pass farm equipment safely.
  • All farmers should mount the SMV emblem (Slow Moving Vehicle) on all tractors, combines, and implements on public roads.
  • Also, as an extra precaution, use a flashing amber warning light and escort vehicle following on public roads.
Farmers spend long hours in combines, trucks, and tractors during the harvest season. Those operating machinery should always...
  • read operator manuals
  • wear seat belts
  • and keep all guards in place
Before dismounting equipment...
  • make sure that the equipment is in neutral or park
  • engage the parking brake
  • and turn off the engine
It is recommended that operators should always lock hydraulic cylinders prior to working under equipment. Limit riders on equipment and remember that instructional seats are for training.

The Sydenstricker Sales and Service departments can help operators become familiar with the important safety features of their John Deere equipment. Sydenstricker wants to thank everyone for using these safety tips for a successful and safe 2017 Harvest.
